Description: Smbat Sparapet’s Chronicle is a key historical source on the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. While much of it summarizes Matthew of Edessa’s Chronicle (951–1136) and its continuation by Gregory the Priest (1136–1162), its most valuable contribution covers 1163–1272. Volume I focuses on 1136–1150. Smbat Sparapet, a statesman and general of 13th-century Cilicia, was deeply involved in military and diplomatic affairs. He translated the Assizes of Antioch from French into Armenian and was familiar with multiple languages. In 1248, he visited the Mongol court in Karakorum and documented his observations. His chronicle is presented in the Sophene Dual Language series, featuring the Armenian text alongside its English translation.
