The Persian Wars - Book by Procopius of Caesarea

Procopius of Caesarea, born around 500, is regarded as the last major historian of the ancient world. Little is known about his early life, though it’s assumed he received a classical Greek education. In 527, he became a legal adviser to Belisarius, Emperor Justinian I's chief military commander. Procopius accompanied Belisarius on several military campaigns, including the defeat of the Vandals in North Africa and the Gothic War in Italy. He witnessed significant events, such as the Nika riots in 532. Eventually, Procopius was separated from Belisarius' staff and continued writing history. He died around 560.
