Heraclides of Pontus: Text and Translation - Book by Heraclides of Pontus, Eckart Schutrumpf
Heraclides of Pontus was a Greek philosopher from the Black Sea region who studied under Aristotle at Plato’s Academy. He briefly led the Academy and was nearly elected its head after Speusippus’ death. His interests spanned astronomy, materialistic theories of the soul, ethics, religion, music, and medicine. Although none of his works survive intact, his dialogues were widely respected in antiquity. A recent volume compiles sources on his life and thought, featuring a new edition of texts by Eckart Schutrumpf and translations by Peter Stork, Jan van Ophuijsen, and Susan Prince, along with scholarly essays covering various aspects of his philosophy.Original Language: Greek
